Set against the backdrop of a rural Taiwanese town in the early 80s, Zhong Zhuang Suite, for SATB a cappella, is my first attempt writing poems in my mother tongue—Taiwanese, and setting them into music. Using three distinct memories of my childhood in rural Taiwan, this choral trilogy offers a snapshot on an island nation caught in between its former slower, gentler way of life and a new, loud and relentless culture ushered in by a rapid industrialization.

Child and Kitten, the first song in the trilogy was written for Babεl Choir under its Choral Composer Mentorship Program, 2020.
